Invergarry work party

can you spot the flow change?
We helped out with a dig-day at the Invergarry pump track. We moved a lot of dirt and flushed out a lot of drainage on the track. A lot of work by a small group of volunteers. We would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time! Big thanks also to the City of Surrey for supplying the great fluffy dirt, drinks, snacks and the help of Staff at the event!

Invergarry

Little Shredder surfacing

The City of Surrey teamed up with some from volunteers last week to resurface the green flow trail: Little Shredder in Invergarry bike park! No more bumps and rocks poking through the trail. Most of the trail has been capped in crushed gravel to smooth things out and increase durability. The nice thing about crushed gravel is that surfacing material can be material added on top and it will adhere really well. It rides great and is only on rollers and not any berms or corners. The decision was made to use it over the clay-loam due to a lack of moisture in the soil on site at the time of the volunteer event. With no water at Invergarry summer building is tough to do.

We were at Fun Fun park on Saturday and finished the run-bike track and surfaced the large track in crushed stone. The next step is to cover the stone in mineral soil and pack. More photos after the jump>>

Food and drinks were generously donated by Guildford Starbucks located at 10174 - 152nd Street

Dustin Gilding

Dustin had a big hand in how the new trail Shovel Buster turned out in Invergarry bike park. he is a great rider and a super friendly down to earth fella. Its great to see him getting the exposure he deserves! Watch this short edit filmed in his parent's back yard.

Dustin Gilding has spent the last 6-7 years digging his ass off to transform his family's property in Abbotsford, BC into an intricate personal bike park. Liam Mullany and Bryce Piwek spent the weekend at Gilding's yard and came back with this short piece reflecting on the sheer sweat equity he has put into his trails, as well as the subsequent opportunities he has created for himself through building. Alpine Bike Parks - Shovel Buster trail new landing

Alpine Bike Parks started construction on shovel buster yesterday. The first day of the build was met with tough conditions. Heavy rain made it difficult for the machines to work at optimum efficiency, but the crew of ABP powered through and accomplished quite a lot. The plan is for the Shovel Buster to be gussied up the whole way down. ABP will be installing SIX premanufactured lips and a sick satellite feature on the trail. the amplitude of all the jumps is being increased at the same time. Sadly this means there will be no beginner trails, but we can always try for that in the next phase. SORCE/ABP can only do so much in a year within a given budget from the City of Surrey. Keep in mind that the COS is supporting the sport of mountain biking in a big way. Shovel Buster is unique in this part of the world. Can you think of another city built park with something like it? As Invergarry park builds a larger user group and the local bike club SORCE achieves higher membership riders in Surrey will be able to request more and more work to be done by Alpine Bike Parks every year.

SORCE trail day

SORCE bike club recently held a trail day on a section of the Junk Yard Dog loop in the South Surrey Bike Park. The new trail section will mimic the flowy, bermy Chainless Larry trail also in SSBP. Leading the construction of the new trail is Vince (Builder of Chainless Larry) and Jordan (SORCE president)

A big thanks goes out to all the volunteers who showed up!

Releaf Tree Planting

This morning at Invergarry Park/Invergarry Bike Park.

The City of Surrey, local community volunteers,, and a team from SORCE will be on hand in Invergarry Planting trees today. If you would like to help out, the fun starts at 10am this morning.

Invergarry Park is located at Surrey Road & Wallace Drive in North Surrey, British Columbia.

From the City of Surrey Site:
Plant the next shrub or tree in Surrey parks and along boulevards. We'll provide the plants, shovels, and instruction - you just have to bring your love for beautifying our City and enhancing the trees in Surrey!
Since 1991, volunteers have planted over 10,000 trees throughout Surrey. Thousands of volunteers have made an impact, like
  • community groups,
  • elementary and secondary schools,
  • local businesses, and
  • individuals who care about their environment.
Sign up for a Releaf tree planting or learn more about volunteering from our Environmental Stewardship Coordinator at 604-501-5158 or environment@surrey.ca. Space is limited for these planting programs, so reserve ahead to avoid disappointment!

Habitat Enhancement Planting

Plant native trees and shrubs in Surrey parks. By planting, you'll give wildlife valuable food and shelter, and boost biodiversity in parks and natural areas.
When we plant: Every October. Open to all ages.
