604 / the end

Hey all,

It has been swell... This blog has been at it for 10 years. During that time, it has recorded a small snapshot of bicycle and volunteer related content from the lower mainland. --However, the time has come to discontinue service... Thanks to anyone who stopped by.

Let's end this blog with another final chapter... A few photos of the extinct 604 pumptrack... all taken from the same spot, (up in a tree)...

(For anyone who may be looking for the dirtwest bikepark company, They are at: dirtwest.ca)

It really hits you in the feels. bye!

Cornercopia

The invergarry pumptrack is looking good and running fast right now. The City of Surrey recently did some hazard tree work around the track and used wood chips to cap the outsides of the track for erosion and weed control. We also think it adds to the aesthetic! Can you see how hard it was raining in the photo?

Invergarry work party

can you spot the flow change?
We helped out with a dig-day at the Invergarry pump track. We moved a lot of dirt and flushed out a lot of drainage on the track. A lot of work by a small group of volunteers. We would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time! Big thanks also to the City of Surrey for supplying the great fluffy dirt, drinks, snacks and the help of Staff at the event!

Invergarry update

The new trails Little Shredder & Excitabike
Its been a while since we had an Invergarry update. Well the wait is over. The grass is greening in nicely and the trails are riding well. There are still a few tweaks to be made on the Excitabike line before we call the new trails finished but we are really pleased with the results so far! Alpine Bike Parks has done a fantastic job of the new trails and signage in Invergarry. Big thanks go to the City of Surrey for funding this exciting project! Be sure to check it out. Oh and don't forget SORCE is holding pumptrack race on the Cornercopia pumptrack this Sunday July 6 at 10am. Its $2 to enter with a 2014 SORCE membership(for insurance purposes) We hope to see you there!

Invergarry

the project outline on the left and new park ettiquette on the right
Invergarry bike park has been under development recently. The new lines cater to all levels of riders and are really flowy. The City of Surrey has also put up some new signage for Shovel Buster and other parts of the bike park. The native grass we planted recently is starting to green in and the trails are looking sick. Here are some photos:

SORCE Toonie # 2

The second Toonie race of the year was held on the Junk Yard Dog course at the South Surrey Bike Park last Sunday. It was a super rainy day and that definitely affected turnout. We had seventeen racers show up to brave the rain and a bunch of folks who were preregistered stayed home warm in their beds. My batteries weren`t fully charged so I only caught a bit of the action before they died. More photos after the jump

Shovel Buster

SORCE president Jordan helps stockpile dirt for the final massive landing
More work has taken place on the revamped trail in Invergarry bike park in North Surrey. Lots of landings have been constructed and a few of the dirt lips are nicely shaped and packed. The next step for Alpine Bike Parks will be building concrete footings for the many Flow form features we are going to see in the park.

Enjoy the photos!...

SSBP tree planting

SORCE president Jordan enjoying the heavy rain
Peter, Vince and Wilma toughing out the rain

SORCE bike club was in the South Surrey Bike Park planting native trees and shrubs. The weather was about as rainy as it gets here on the coast of BC. But that didn't stop SORCE from getting out there with shovels. The focus was on repairing the many areas of the forest that have sustained damage through trail braiding. We planted a lot of salal, ferns, wild rose, vine maple, salmon berries and simon berries in the areas most affected by the trail braids.

Twoonie race #5

Pre race meeting
Lots of colour in the Watershed yesterday

The last Twoonie Race in the SORCE/Shed bike club race series wrapped up yesterday at the Delta Watershed. The course was a massive 10km loop and there was 2 categories to race in, either a 10km intermediate or 20km advanced race.
We had another great turnout of riders to this event. The Watershed was in full fall colour and conditions stayed foggy the whole day but trails were in prime shape and everyone had a great time! There are nearly 200 photos after the jump>> lots of photos of riders on course, the prize giveaways and the apres party and race winners are toward the bottom of the page. Enjoy and see you next year! Thanks again to the organizers, volunteers, racers and keep in mind SORCE will be having an AGM in late November, we look forward to seeing you there!

Big thanks to SORCE/Shed bike club twoonie race sponsors South Surrey Cycles, Rocky Cycle, Norco Bicycles and Central City Brewers and Distillers!

Invergarry Tree Planting

The SORCE bike club was out in force today helping plant some native trees and shrubs in Invergarrry Park. Big thanks to Fay and Roberto from the City of Surrey for guiding the volunteers! SORCE provided food and refreshments for the hard working crew. Lots of Cedars, Alders and Salmon berries and other native species were planted in the area across the path from the pump track. Some of the Volunteers took a well earned break on the pump track including SORCE president Jordan. More photos after the jump>>

2014 Dartmoor

Quite the spazoid colour scheme from Dartmoor bikes at Eurobike

Using a special "oil slick" coating process, Dartmoor has come up with a petrol color scheme that varies from frame to frame. Look for Szymon Godziek to be blasting sky high on this one.

The frame is made of multiple butted, seamless Japanese Cr-Mo 4130 steel tubes. All the tubes are heat treated before welding. Hydroformed chainstay tubes increase stiffness, lower weight and give more clearance for the crankarms. Features gyro tab holes in the head tube, a 68.5-degree head angle, 380mm stays, 135x10mm dropouts, 68mm Spanish BB, Campy style 45/45 integrated headset, 11.8-inch seat tube length, and a weight of 4.98-pounds (2.26kg).
