Akrigg

Its no secret that we worship Chris Akrigg at dirtwest. This time Chris takes us on a cyclocross ride...

Well here we go again, the second instalment of riding the bike with the curly whirly bars and skinny tyres. We are currently at the hight of the Cyclocross season so i thought it was about time i dug the cyclocross bike out for another spin. I read somewhere that Cyclocross originated for roadies back in the day trying to spice up their winter training. They would race from point to point using whatever means possible, racing down farm track and running across fields with the bike on there back etc. That was their spin. My back ground is Trials, and this is my spin!

Summer is on the way...
Cross-country mountain biking is all about going fast. It's about racing and winning and beating your buddies and throwing the hammer down. It's also about having a blast riding singletrack. We took the racing gear off, and the heart rate monitors, and took our featherlight carbon Kona XC Race Light bikes--the Hei Hei Supreme, Hei Hei Deluxe, and King Kahuna on a little spin through the wilds of Maui. Because at Kona, we can't make it super fast without having it be really fun.

Collectors

Whats with chromag and hardtail edits? Oh wait... I know this one. They make steel frames in Squampton.

Chromag: Collectors

New Zealand

Bike parks are lame. They should put a car park on this mountain instead. That would be much much better than some 440 meter descent through epic dinosaur forests. Ok enough with the sarcasm. Its good to see and edit with the super awesome Wyn Masters shredding. I love watching this dude ride! It also seems that this type of gravity/mtb park program taking off around the world... like this one from the UK that is geting started.

Fourforty mountain bike park is a privately funded project that started over 2 years ago by 2 individuals. On opening there will be 7 trails to choose from all with their own features and styles, from clique bike park style trails to gnarly rocky traverse single track. The total potential area of the property is over 1500 acres and the plan over the next 5 years is to develop this into New Zealand's largest gravity specific mountain bike park. The future of Fourforty is to operate a full bike service centre/retail shop aswell as cafe, bar and food facilities.

ANDREAS HESTLER

I stumbled upon an old book I used to own at the salvation army 'Mountain Biking in BC' and was flipping thru and saw an old ad with Andreas in it... This video follows him around some awesome looking BC riding spots. The Brittania beach trail looks dope!
Back when I was in junior high school and riding tons on Mt. Tzouhalem in Duncan, XC racing was in its' hey-day. The likes of Roland Green, Alison Sydor, Ryder Hjesdal, and Andreas Hestler were just down the road in Victoria, training like ferocious beasts. Every once in a while we’d see them on the trails, and just be blown away. Andreas was very recognizable. He was a bad-ass, a smiley guy, and of all the different things that stand out I always remember people talking about his biceps! At the 1998 Hornby Island XC I was watching the pros race and when Andreas rode by, this dude beside me turned to his buddy and said “I don’t understand why he lifts weights so much to build up his arms, doesn’t that extra bulk just hold him back on the climbs?” Kind of a random memory I know, but that always just stuck with me because to my young mind back then it meant that you could be a strong XC racer but have the arms of a wrestler; as in: you don’t have to exactly fit the mould to be successful.

Normal every day normal guy

This kid is on a really old bike with flat bars and rim brakes. It doesn't stop him from getting out to the trails and shredding. The video was also really well put together. Good vibes and probably brings back memories to those old enough to remember riding hardtails with rim brakes

A tale of two Eccentrics

You really don't see too many hardtail edits out there these days. Nor edits without a song. This excellent edit is silent except for the sounds of riding and forest. Enjoy all

Last autumn Maciek and Wojtek took the new bikes for a spin in the mountains surrounding famous Austrian bike resort Leogang and we followed them around with a camera. Enjoy the video.

CHU'CH

Two dudes having fun riding, blasting some big jumps and ample slo mo make this edit worth the watch! Good tunes too!

Happy New Year's eve

I really don't care about watching this dude ride. I know he's fast and rides technical things, I just don't care to watch. But this edit is pretty decent cinematography and the scenery is nice so thats it.

Latimer Lake Strava

Jordan, Bryson(taking the photo) and I rode at Latimer Lake Park on Saturday.  The weather was about as rainy as it gets here on the coast of BC. We did a little Srava-ing while we were there on the SORCE club ride. Just goes to show you how much riding there is still to be had at a former Surrey mountain bike destination. We look forward to riding there more. We also intend to advocate for this spot to be reinvigorated. More on that as it develops. http://app.strava.com/activities/97981241

Instinct in the Monashees

Nice Fall winter edit featuring the godfather Wade Simmons and Lambert rep/xc racer Kevin Calhoun
The plan was to head to the Monashee Mountains near Revelstoke, British Columbia with Wade Simmons and Kevin Calhoun to shoot an autumn alpine video for our new Instinct MSL. We wanted to showcase the bike’s versatility under two very different riders—Kevin is an XC racer on our Factory Team, while Wade’s contributions to freeride mountain biking need no introduction—.
Of course sometimes Mother Nature doesn’t play nice, and an early cold snap provided on-and-off snowfall throughout our adventure.
Despite the challenging weather, we knew we had an opportunity to capture a unique aspect of the changing seasons. From Kevin’s dawn patrol ascent to Wade charging snowy trail features, the rapidly changing conditions ended up being the perfect way to showcase the Instinct’s versatility.
We’d like to thank the crew at the Sol Mountain Lodge for all their help with this project. Their lodge was a great base-camp and their trails were a blast even in the snow. We’ll be back again in warmer weather.
Thanks for watching, Love the Ride!

Twoonie race #5

Pre race meeting
Lots of colour in the Watershed yesterday

The last Twoonie Race in the SORCE/Shed bike club race series wrapped up yesterday at the Delta Watershed. The course was a massive 10km loop and there was 2 categories to race in, either a 10km intermediate or 20km advanced race.
We had another great turnout of riders to this event. The Watershed was in full fall colour and conditions stayed foggy the whole day but trails were in prime shape and everyone had a great time! There are nearly 200 photos after the jump>> lots of photos of riders on course, the prize giveaways and the apres party and race winners are toward the bottom of the page. Enjoy and see you next year! Thanks again to the organizers, volunteers, racers and keep in mind SORCE will be having an AGM in late November, we look forward to seeing you there!

RESULTS HERE

Big thanks to SORCE/Shed bike club twoonie race sponsors South Surrey Cycles, Rocky Cycle, Norco Bicycles and Central City Brewers and Distillers!

Trail trance

I liked this edit, but dude in the black w/ black helmet has a gross style. Just sayin.

Evolene, a typical Swiss mountain community in the Valais was recently invaded by rowdy unsophisticated mountain bikers. They destroyed the loamy trails and shocked the local, simple mountain folk with their lack of manners and dangerously out of control mountain biking. Shaperideshoot documented this invasion of free spirits, who have sent shockwaves throughout the Swiss Valais. Enjoy our take on simple mountain living.
