604 / the end

Hey all,

It has been swell... This blog has been at it for 10 years. During that time, it has recorded a small snapshot of bicycle and volunteer related content from the lower mainland. --However, the time has come to discontinue service... Thanks to anyone who stopped by.

Let's end this blog with another final chapter... A few photos of the extinct 604 pumptrack... all taken from the same spot, (up in a tree)...

North Delta pumptrack

Hey everyone,

Derek from Dirtwest has been hard at work on this new pumptrack for the municipality of Delta. The track is located at the North Delta Recreation Centre at 84 ave and 114street in Delta BC. Here is a little gopro chesty of a quick la on opening day.

Definitely go check out this fun new addition to the lower mainland riding scene!

Some of the long term Dirtwest members and extended family got together in the Invergarry bike park over the weekend. Here  is a little go pro chesty clip from the pumptrack.

This is a great video showing the vibe that a pumptrack can bring to community. Its the alta pumptrack, which is awesome. 

Tree planting

On October second, volunteers from Dirtwest, Honda plus staff from the City of Surrey and Forests Ontario got together in Invergarry bike park to plant 201 native trees and shrubs. This is the fifth year dirtwest has participated in plantings in the bike park. Our total is now over 1000 trees and shrubs installed throughout the park.

done for now... now we need rain

Sometimes the best time to build new stuff is when its dry and dusty. Its really easy to make some moves on stuff that can't/wont be ridden until the rainy season. This is one such spot... a part of the cornercopia pumptrack was growing grass(a sure sign a line isn't being ridden) so we switched it up... Now to wait for some rain so we can pack and shape it into a working line. That's the trade... easy earth move but a line that wont be finished for a while...

Just a minor update on Fun Fun park pumptracks. They are up and running. 

Peppermint bike park

This is a neat new concept that integrates off road and on road cycling in a bike park. It shows how its not a far leap from sport to transport. This could be a great new way to get young cyclists interested in commuting in the future.

We were at Fun Fun park on Saturday and finished the run-bike track and surfaced the large track in crushed stone. The next step is to cover the stone in mineral soil and pack. More photos after the jump>>

Dirtwest was out in force today in Invergarry bike park on Saturday. We completed some major improvements to the north side of the Cornercopia pumptrack. Check out the photo’s below, and this timelapse of the work!

A big portion of this edit was filmed in Invergarry on Shovel Buster. Always glad to see when 'our' bike park shows up on the internet... Especially when its a great rider doing huge bangers, enjoy!

Some trail gnomes just beamed over some pumptrack love. Looks like a little reshaping for the 180 corner at the North-west side of the track took place.
