604 / the end

Hey all,

It has been swell... This blog has been at it for 10 years. During that time, it has recorded a small snapshot of bicycle and volunteer related content from the lower mainland. --However, the time has come to discontinue service... Thanks to anyone who stopped by.

Let's end this blog with another final chapter... A few photos of the extinct 604 pumptrack... all taken from the same spot, (up in a tree)...

North Delta pumptrack

Hey everyone,

Derek from Dirtwest has been hard at work on this new pumptrack for the municipality of Delta. The track is located at the North Delta Recreation Centre at 84 ave and 114street in Delta BC. Here is a little gopro chesty of a quick la on opening day.

Definitely go check out this fun new addition to the lower mainland riding scene!

Deathgrip: Brendog and Ratboy

Some of the long term Dirtwest members and extended family got together in the Invergarry bike park over the weekend. Here  is a little go pro chesty clip from the pumptrack. 

Cornercopia

The invergarry pumptrack is looking good and running fast right now. The City of Surrey recently did some hazard tree work around the track and used wood chips to cap the outsides of the track for erosion and weed control. We also think it adds to the aesthetic! Can you see how hard it was raining in the photo?

We helped out with a dig-day at the Invergarry pump track. We moved a lot of dirt and flushed out a lot of drainage on the track. A lot of work by a small group of volunteers. We would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time! Big thanks also to the City of Surrey for supplying the great fluffy dirt, drinks, snacks and the help of Staff at the event!

Invergarry work party

The City of Surrey has delivered an ample supply of prime dirt for resurfacing the Cornercopia pumptrack. If we have enough volunteers we can make some bigger changes to improve flow.

There is a trail day at Invegarry bike park this Sunday April 23. The fun starts at 10 am rain or shine, Tools, drinks and snacks will be provided. Please wear appropriate work gear and consider gloves.

Tree planting

On October second, volunteers from Dirtwest, Honda plus staff from the City of Surrey and Forests Ontario got together in Invergarry bike park to plant 201 native trees and shrubs. This is the fifth year dirtwest has participated in plantings in the bike park. Our total is now over 1000 trees and shrubs installed throughout the park.

New bench

new bench in Invergarry

The City of Surrey has added a bench to Invergarry bike park. It is located next to the start mound and has a great view of the pumptrack. Big thanks to the City of Surrey for the recent enhancements at the park!

Little Shredder surfacing

The City of Surrey teamed up with some from volunteers last week to resurface the green flow trail: Little Shredder in Invergarry bike park! No more bumps and rocks poking through the trail. Most of the trail has been capped in crushed gravel to smooth things out and increase durability. The nice thing about crushed gravel is that surfacing material can be material added on top and it will adhere really well. It rides great and is only on rollers and not any berms or corners. The decision was made to use it over the clay-loam due to a lack of moisture in the soil on site at the time of the volunteer event. With no water at Invergarry summer building is tough to do.

The downhill World cup 2016 season is about to begin. It kicks off in France next weekend. Here is a video of the Devinci racing team's recent time in BC. Lets hope Stevie Smith has a better year than last! Stay healthy Steve.

Like most of us at Kona, he handles a few different responsibilities. Trevor is the sales rep for British Columbia, works in the Kona Product Group and takes care of Canadian SuperGrass riders.
